Bag of Ancient Harvest Harmony Quinoa

Ancient Harvest Harmony Quinoa

Quinoa is becoming a staple for many Plant Powered People, much like rice, pasta and potatoes. One reason is that it’s high in protein. In fact, it is a complete protein, containing all 9 essential amino acids (the ones our bodies cannot make), which makes it a great way to boost nutrition. The Ancient Harvest Harmony Quinoa package indicates one serving is 1/4 cup uncooked grain, which contains 6 grams of protein - nice!

Quinoa has bit of a nutty taste. Much like brown rice, the flavor is more complex than white rice. This Ancient Harvest Harmony mix has three quinoa types, white, red and black, which provides a little bit different taste profile than each one individually - and a more fun look to your dish - than any one type alone. All are delicious individually, by the way. Quinoa is an ideal substitute for rice in salads, stir fry dishes, and generally in most any recipe.

And I particularly like that this Ancient Harvest Harmony Quinoa because it is pre-rinsed so I don’t have to do the rinsing. The grain is rinsed to remove the outer coating of protective saponin, the grain’s natural insecticide, which is not harmful to humans - just bitter - and it makes quinoa more difficult to digest. Glad for the pre-rinse!

I personally love quinoa. It is one of my favorite foods - light in texture and flavor, very tasty, filling but not heavy, and an excellent compliment to other flavors and textures in a dish. Give quinoa a try. You will like it, too, I am pretty sure.
